MEMBERSHIP
Types of Memberships
Danvers
Babe Ruth League, Inc. has 3 types of memberships: Regular, Player
and Honorary.
Adults
who sincerely desire to actively participate in our league and
to help us achieve our purpose and objectives may apply to
become Regular Members of our league. As Regular Members,
they have the right (and the obligation) to attend our league
meetings and to make their opinions known. Regular Members
have the right to vote at league meetings and they are responsible
for the management, operation, finances and property of our league. Regular
Members are bound by the provisions of our league’s bylaws
and must also comply with such further rules, regulations, terms
and conditions as our Board of Directors may adopt. In
order to manage any team in our league, you must be a Regular
Member of our League and, in addition, you must have attended
a specified number of our league meetings within a prescribed
period of time (see below).
All children who reside in Danvers and register to play in one
of our baseball programs automatically become Player Members
of our league. As Player Members, they have the right to
attend our league meetings and to make their opinions known. However,
Player Members have no right to vote at our league meetings and
they have no duties or obligations in regard to the management,
operation, finances or property of our league. However,
Player Members are bound by the provisions of our league’s
bylaws and must comply with such further rules, regulations,
terms and conditions as our Board of Directors may adopt.
Adults who have made an extraordinarily significant, positive
contribution to our league or to the Town of Danvers or to the
youth of Danvers or to the game of baseball may be elected as
Honorary Members of our league by our Board of Directors. Honorary
Members have the right to attend our league meetings and to make
their opinions known. However, Honorary Members have no
right to vote at our league meetings and they have no duties
or obligations in regard to the management, operation, finances
or property of our league.
How Do I Become a Regular Member ?
If you want to become a Regular Member of our league, it’s
very easy. Simply come to one of our meetings. There’s
no secret handshake to practice, no foul-tasting concoction to
guzzle down and no sacred passwords to commit to memory. Just
show up and you will be welcomed.
Once you’re there, you’ll be asked to complete and
sign an Application for Regular Membership. (If you prefer,
you can download an Application from this web site and take it
to the meeting with you.) Your completed Application is
given to our Secretary, who presents it to our Board of Directors
for their approval at the Board’s next regularly scheduled
meeting or at any earlier special meeting. If you receive
a vote of approval from a majority of the directors present at
that meeting and pay the required dues, you become a Regular
Member. Currently, our dues are One Dollar ($ 1.00) per
year.
What is a Regular Member in Good Standing and why do I want to
become one?
A Regular Member in Good Standing is one who has:
·
paid his dues;
·
attended at least
four (4) league meetings within the previous nine (9) months
and
·
not otherwise violated
our bylaws.
Only Regular Members who are “in Good Standing” may
be appointed as managers of regular season teams in our Major
and Senior divisions. Similarly, only Regular Members who
are “in Good Standing” may be appointed as managers
of our tournament teams. Only persons who have attended
two or more of our league meetings within the preceding six (6)
months may be appointed as managers of teams in our Prep Division.
The above requirements help us to ensure that our managers are
experts on our local playing rules and are conversant with our
league’s regulations and policies.
