OUR
DIVISIONS
Danvers Babe Ruth League’s has 3 separate playing divisions,
which divisions are differentiated solely by the age of their
players: the Prep Division, the Major Division and the Senior
Division.
Prep Division
All 13-year-old players, regardless of their individual skill
levels, play on teams with other 13 year-olds in our Prep Division.
No 13 year-old player can be assigned to a team in any other
division.
Based upon more than 60 years of experience, Babe Ruth Baseball
believes that the overwhelming majority of 13 year-olds need
a year to adjust to playing at the Babe Ruth level, before they
can enjoyably compete with older boys. Our 13 year-old players
are barely a few months removed from playing on Little League-size
fields that are considerably smaller than Babe Ruth playing fields.
So, they need time to adjust to the larger diamond.
They also need time to adjust to Babe Ruth League’s "big-league" style
of play: runners taking leads, pitchers picking off runners,
runners stealing bases, etc. Babe Ruth Baseball is real baseball!
Finally, in most cases, 13 year-olds are inherently smaller,
less muscular and less mature than their 14 and 15 year old counterparts.
Therefore, it is assured that they will get more playing time
and enjoy more success by competing only against other 13 year-olds
during their first year on the big diamond.
Major Division
All 14-year-old and 15-year old players, regardless of their
individual skill levels, play on teams in our Major Division
with other 14 and 15 year olds.
Senior Division
All 16, 17, 18 and 19-year-old players compete in our Senior
Division. The Senior Division is composed of one or more travel
teams. Those teams play one-half of their games on our Danvers
fields and the remaining half on the road in such places as Newburyport,
Peabody, Beverly, Saugus, Salem and Lynn, among others.
